BLUF:
The increased use of Russian jet-powered drones, such as the Geran-3, Geran-4, and Geran-5 variants, is exposing a costly gap in Ukraine’s air defenses. Multirotor interceptor drones are often too slow to take them down. This has forced Ukraine to turn to more expensive and limited fighter jets and missiles, or less reliable Man-Portable Air Defense Systems or close-range AI-enabled gun turrets. Faster interceptors and improved radar are on their way, but production bottlenecks, testing needs and component shortages are slowing their widespread use.
